Which are all the basic apps not working due to Avast cleanup?

Kindly follow the below methods and check if it helps.

Method 1:

  1. Open the Task manager. Here’s a tip: Press CTRL+Shift+ESC.

  2. Click File > Run New Task.

  3. Make sure you have a check mark beside “Create this task with administrative privileges”

  4. Type Powershell

  5. Type the following in the Powershell prompt:
    $manifest = (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.WindowsStore).InstallLocation + 'AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest

  6. Close the Powershell window.

  7. Reboot the computer and check if it helps.

If the issue persist, follow below method.

Method 2:

This may happen if some of the Windows files got corrupted. Follow the below steps and check if the issue persist.

  1. Press ‘Windows + X’ Keys on the keyboard.

  2. Click on ‘Command Prompt (Admin)’ to bring up an elevated command prompt.
    Note: Click ‘Yes’ if it prompts for permission.

  3. In the command prompt type in the following commands one by one and then press Enter.

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth

DISM.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

sfc /scannow

Note: If you are not able to repair some files after performing SFC scan, I suggest you to refer to the point 3 “Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log %WinDir%LogsCBSCBS.log”. Under the section “Run the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe)” to repair the corrupted files after performing SFC scan.

Note: It is not recommended to use the third party security software. Sometimes, it may cause damage to the Windows files.

If you wish to scan your computer for virus/malware, I suggest you to use the Windows defender to scan the computer. You may try to turn on the Windows defender which is the inbuilt security software comes with Windows and Turn on the Windows firewall to protect your PC from worms/hackers.

I see this thread talk something about Avast Cleanup in this sub for long time ago but I can't find any thread discuss it is good or bad software. I think someone in /r/Techsupport can give me some advice.

I'm using Avast(free version) for anti-virus program. It scan and report me that my win7 computer have performance issues. I try use it fix that for me but it look like i need to pay for subscription to use Avast Cleanup.

I'm interesting in System Setting feature from Avast Cleanup. Here is the list of tweak in this section.

Services Tuning

  • Iphlpsvc(undefinediphlpsvc)

  • Allow Multiple T S Sessions(disable fast user switching)

  • Win32 Priority Seperation(set CPU priority to prefer foreground apps)

User Tweaks

  • Foreground Lock Timeout

  • Hung App Timeout

  • Low Level Hooks Timeout(similar to WaitToKillServiceTimeout, but not for shutdown)

  • Menu Show Delay

  • Wait To Kill App Timeout

  • Wait To Kill Service Timeout

  • Beep(disable beeping on errors)

  • Extended Sounds(disable beeping on errors)

  • No Internet Open With(disable contacting the Microsoft web service to resolve file association)

  • No Resolve Track(disable usage of NTFS tracking feature for LNK resolution)

I try to google about it and test some tweak from internet. Finally, I found that what System Setting do is the same thing as free Windows 7 Registry Tweak. So I think it's not good idea to buy for this thing.
